Sumol Compal inaugurates photovoltaic plant for self-consumption at the Pombal Factory

Sumol Compal has completed the installation and commissioned a new photovoltaic plant at its industrial unit in Pombal, intended for energy production for self-consumption. The project includes 3,456 solar panels, spread over an area of approximately 8,000 m², with a total capacity of 1,762 kWp, representing another step in the company’s energy transition strategy.

The new installation reinforces Sumol Compal’s investment in decarbonization and energy efficiency, joining those already in place in Almeirim and Vila Flor. Among the project’s main impacts is the production of renewable electricity for own consumption, with self-consumption estimated at around 21%, equivalent to annual savings of approximately €234,000, helping to partially reduce dependence on the power grid and increase the predictability of energy costs.

In environmental terms, the new infrastructure will prevent the emission of around 325 tonnes of CO₂ per year, an impact comparable to the effect of about 450 trees over their lifecycle. The plant’s estimated annual energy production could also correspond to the average consumption of approximately 750 Portuguese households of three people.

The company frames this project within its commitments to the 2030 Agenda and the promotion of an energy model with a lower environmental impact, while also contributing to the resilience of its industrial operations.
