At Sumol Compal, we are committed to the future; sustainability is in our DNA.
We take our responsibility seriously and act decisively, promoting sustainable practices across all of our brands.
The brand 'Água Serra da Estrela' recently launched the movement 'SO THAT IT NEVER ENDS,' aiming to generate real and lasting change.
We are aware of the effects of climate change, recurrent wildfires, and human pressure. This ecosystem faces numerous challenges, and we need to promote sustainable practices, forest restoration, and community mobilization to ensure that this source of life remains preserved for future generations.
This movement 'SO THAT IT NEVER ENDS' has a continuous character and aims to:
- Reduce the environmental impact of operations: transitioning to 100% rPET packaging will be achieved in 2025, ahead of and surpassing the legal requirement set for 2030;
- Regenerate Serra da Estrela: reforestation and revitalization of sustainable practices that protect the ecosystem. Since 2002, over 1.7 million trees have been planted;
- Mobilize communities and consumers: raising environmental awareness and encouraging the adoption of more responsible behaviors.
This program involves various entities that share the same environmental commitment. We highlight the Associação CUIDAR, an organization dedicated to nature conservation and promoting sustainable practices in Serra da Estrela.
On April 8th, the launch event was held at our factory in Gouveia. We opened our doors to the community and partners, offering an exclusive visit. The event featured José Nuno Santos, Tourism Councilor of the Gouveia City Council, Associação CUIDAR, the Folgosinho Firefighters, 2BForest, Geoparque Serra da Estrela, and the Centro de Interpretação da Serra da Estrela.
The event began with a brief presentation by Ana Rita Martins, Category Manager, and Miguel Garcia, Marketing Director, who introduced the actions of the brand Água Serra da Estrela. This was followed by a factory tour, and in the afternoon, a reforestation initiative took place with the participation of 80 children and 15 young people.
We genuinely feel that we have contributed to raising awareness of the importance of preserving water, addressing the region's environmental challenges, and the urgent need to combat problems such as wildfires and climate change.
At Sumol Compal, beyond simply meeting environmental goals, we are committed to leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
