On 25th, 28th and 29th November 2016, the Pombal plant was subject to yet another evaluation, this time by the auditors of BRC Food (British Retail Consortium). It passed with an AA classification (the most demanding of the BRC audits announced).
BRC Food is a global food safety standard recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Its aim is to harmonise international food safety standards with the support of the largest global food manufacturers.
BRC Food certification involves the adoption and implementation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) methodology, hygiene practices, food safety and quality systems. It also demonstrates the commitment to consumer safety and relations with the main interested parties.
The Pombal plant thus joins Almeirim in having the top BRC classification. This result was the culmination of nine-months work that was only possible due to the commitment of a multi-sectoral team involving areas from every pillar of the organisation.
